The Tyranny of Evidence: Do Scientists Use Dogma?

Is evolution a religion? Should we describe the positions of scientists as dogma?
Is science democratic? Isn't there room for debate on the issues of science?
Why can't we teach both sides? Isn't that good science pedagogy?

@TheBb83 just what fossils are hidden away by these supposedly conspiratorial palaeontologists? and how would this fossil evidence disprove evolution?

This is an empty an pointless statment, exactly the same could be said for religion.
Although there is proof of cover up and fraud throughout religion which is never corrected and admitted.
Remember a magician performs tricks not miricles. One needs to know the difference.

There is none in science. As has been well said here.
However there is endlesss controvercy and controdiction within and between the many creation myths and Religious dictitorial inventions, so we should teach these controvercies.
@TheBbg83 Hundreds ... ( 9 months ago by harvellt)
@TheBbg83 Hundreds of thousands of people are "funded" by the US Government to do research without ever having to check with anyone before publishing your results. The money is handed out at state and local levels sometimes it is only $500 to fund a undergraduate research proposal, others it is million dollar grants to professors who are able to higher students and other professors to study a problem. Far too many people are involved for the scope of conspiracy you are implying.

"failed to meet the basic burdens of proof" - is exactly what the author of this video should say to himself. You dismiss 'aquatic ape' theory for the lack of evidence, yet ANY OTHER theory has much less evidence. You use just "a lot of scientists say" - where those "scientists" are nothing but paid clerks who DO NOT look for new evidence, but ONLY for the evidence that proves what their bosses want to hear. The voice on the video sounds fake, artificial, cunning.

@VojvodinaNet you people miss one point - if scientists would only look for "convenient" evidence just to support their own theories, science progress would STOP!
Array ( 8 months ago by VojvodinaNet)
@eleminatus
science 'progress' has stopped in many areas due to behavior like this. It is a notorious fact that most of the 'scientists' today are actually not independent researchers, nor do they have a free, open mind. Science is heavily controlled. Of course, the greatest effort is done to make the science LOOK like it is a true science. Some 'progress' is done, but always at the expense of better, more natural answers to the questions.
@VojvodinaNet for ... ( 8 months ago by eleminatus)
@VojvodinaNet for crying out loud.. another conspiracy! Controlled by what or who? You have any evidence? Just saying it doesnt make it true. What fields have stopped in progress? Give me some examples of those "more natural answers"!

@eleminatus
Sorry, I don't have time for this. Do you want me to go into a discussion over the state of science in 21st century and give you evidence? That would require a large book, and I would only start...Whatever I say, you can contradict with statements that LOOK logical, and I can then spend hours here, typing same old same old over and over. I am not paid to do that, so this will be my last post here. I said what I had to say, Internet is open for research (if you know how).
@VojvodinaNet yeah ... ( 8 months ago by eleminatus)
@VojvodinaNet yeah yeah.. try to play on superiority here. Its very easy to spew out a shit tone of conspiracy claims and then just run away hiding behind god knows what. Its very stupid when you say that you need a book just to start but cant even give one justified and based on evidence argument in comment section. Its 500 symbols, plenty! Stopped progress, hidden agendas, control - you belong right with those lizard people conspirators.

Scientists are usually on NIH grants... which come before the work is conducted. Grants are awarded based on prior ability to produce results which can be replicated by competitors.
I'm not saying scientists are incorruptible, I'm saying they work in a system that discourages any dishonesty.

When people complain about science not being democratic - I tell them that it is damn well that it isn't; facts are facts.
The Earth is an oblate spheroid, the sky is blue, water is wet, etc... - these thing you CAN'T vote on, because they are FACTS. You don't get to decide what is a fact, it just is. No matter how much you don't want it to be. No amount of voting is going to change that FACT.
Then some say they don't like undemocratic things, for which I say Reality isn't Candyland.
@longfootbuddy Yes, ... ( 4 months ago by therrydicule)
@longfootbuddy Yes, everyone care about keeping there jobs... So, scientist like being wrong and say they were - think about it! A scientist that "I was wrong" show honesty in front of the physical, mathematical evidence... A priest don't have to do that, but people walk out, slowly, one by one, when they realize that he is full shit and the last few one hardcore believer just die of old age. People start walking out the church in the 1880's with 1 to 4%, now the young are atheist at 30%.

Thanks a lot for mentioning the "Aquatic Ape Thesis", I've never heard about it before and find the reading to be rather fascinating. So many valid sounding answers to questions which seem (in the context of my limited knowledge) to have been skipped in the past.
This is also the best video I've encountered which explains in layman terms the rigidness of science and why (the why part being implied). So going to subscribe for more.

The use of scientific proof has limitations in society, and this is a vital check. If we ever allowed science to govern all human conduct we would create a tyranny the like of which the world has never seen.
Peer review is a corruptible process given patience and the appropriate motivation. Leaving it all down to science could in the end spell its death, or subversion..
If you have seen the five monkeys and banana video you will understand the process.
