To all the people saying that it was a bad move to charge the enemy from the hill: it may not have been as poor an idea as you might think. With so many sith present, it's not impossible to imagine that they could project a force storm on the ridge, effectively killing everyone instantly. Also, as a planet nearly entirely controlled by imperial forces, artillery or orbital strikes were also a potential danger. Mixing your numbers with the enemy prevents the use of such tactics.

Forces more difficult to quickly replace, and consider in the context of the story: This Sith battalion is intended to take and hold the capital before the imminent arrival of the Republic navy, wiping out Havoc squadron in a M.A.D scenario would not have achieved this goal.
